On 10 September 2026 Leigh Academy Bexley welcomed Dr. Vanessa Ogden CBE, Department for Education London Regional Director, and members of her team, for a milestone visit celebrating the academy’s rapid trajectory of improvement following its successful Ofsted inspection in May and academic outcomes this summer.

Marking her first school visit of the academic year, Dr. Ogden was joined by Department for Education colleagues Matthew Mitchell and Louise Skinner, alongside Leigh Academies Trust (LAT) Chief Executive Officer Simon Beamish and Deputy CEO (Education) Tracey Trusler.

During the visit, they toured the academy’s upgraded facilities, including the newly refurbished library and the recently opened Specialist Resource Provision (Chatsworth), which is already thriving and providing tailored inclusive support to students. The visiting team observed firsthand the teaching that has led to significant improvements in student outcomes.

Reflecting on the tour and discussions with staff and students, Dr. Vanessa Ogden CBE noted the “genuine transformation” taking place across the academy, emphasising its direct “impact on students’ lives.”

It was a privilege to welcome Dr. Ogden and her team to Leigh Academy Bexley today,” said John Dixon, Principal. “Following our successful Ofsted inspection in May and excellent results this summer, this visit gave us an incredible opportunity to highlight the hard work of our staff and students. The feedback regarding our improved results and newly upgraded facilities validates the dedicated effort our entire school community puts in every single day.  Applications for Leigh Academy Bexley clearly indicate that it is now securely the school of choice for the local community. “

The successful visit highlights Leigh Academy Bexley’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality education, an inclusive learning environment, and strong academic outcomes for all pupils.
