Our Careers Curriculum ensures that students can explore pathways for their GCSEs and beyond. It is structured, age-appropriate, and aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks, offering a coherent and progressive journey through each year group.

We have established a wide range of opportunities that enable learners to make well-informed choices about their next steps. These include:

● In-house careers fairs

● Visits to external careers fairs

● Workshops delivered by external stakeholders

● Careers-focused assemblies (apprenticeships, university, alternative routes)

These opportunities ensure that students can engage with a variety of pathways and gain insight from both internal and external experts, supporting informed decision-making about their futures.

Building on early careers learning, our Post-16 Careers Programme supports students to develop skills, make informed choices, and prepare for life after school.

Support includes:

● One-to-one sessions with our in-house Careers Advisor

● Tailored guidance for university, apprenticeships, and alternative pathways

● Application and interview workshops

● Mentoring and progress tracking

Students leave Leigh Academy Bexley with clarity, confidence, and a plan for success.

We go beyond career guidance – we help students grow as individuals. Our character and wellbeing programme builds transferable employability skills that prepare students for the real world, including:

● Teamwork and leadership

● Communication and problem-solving

● Resilience and adaptability

● Self-management and reflection

Through these activities, students develop both professional and personal attributes that will serve them for life.

We are proud of our strong network of local businesses and universities, which brings the world of work into our classrooms.

● A Leigh Academy Bexley Careers Fair in partnership with local employers

● University insight visits to explore academic and vocational routes

● Mock interviews and CV-building workshops with university and employers

These encounters help students gain a real-world understanding of careers and inspire their next steps.

Our careers programme is continually assessed and improved. Each module is evaluated by the careers lead using:

● Student voice and surveys

● Learning walks

● Reflective feedback

Regular reviews ensure our programme stays relevant, up-to-date, and aligned with current opportunities in education and employment.
