Dear Leigh Academy Bexley Community
The start of this week saw the next cohort of Leigh Academy Bexley families find out which Secondary school they will be joining in September 2025. With a huge increase in first choices and offers, we were delighted to welcome several families to the academy this morning for an additional open morning so that they could see the academy in action. We look forward to welcoming all our new Year 7 students in September.
In this week’s newsletter I am pleased to share with you details of another productive week of learning both inside and outside the classroom, including trips, clubs and assemblies.
As always, if we can support you in any way please contact us via info@labexley.org.uk, where we will make every endeavour to respond within 24 hours.
Best wishes,
Mr John Dixon | Principal, Leigh Academy Bexley
Poetry Live!
On Thursday 27th February, a number of Year 11 students were given the incredible opportunity to see eight poets perform their work to aid them in their GCSE English Literature at Poetry Live! at the Lyceum Theatre. The poets included the current Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, former Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and the ever popular John Agard. They also received a talk by a Chief Examiner on how best to approach the Unseen Poetry component. It was an incredibly informative and impactful day and students represented the Academy very positively.

Extra Curricular Clubs
E-Sports Club – Mondays & Tuesdays in CS4B
We are excited to offer an E-Sports Club every Monday and Tuesday after school in CS4B!
E-Sports involves competitive video game tournaments, often played by professional teams and players. These competitions span various game genres, from strategy to shooters, and take place in organized settings, both online and in-person—think of it as competitive, organized gaming.
Our E-Sports Hub is open to all year groups, providing students with an opportunity to develop teamwork, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging environment.
We look forward to seeing students there!

This Week’s Assembly
This week students were introduced to the launch of the annual World Book Day. Students were invited to think about the importance of reading for fun. Some top tips were shared such as reading while on the go to audiobooks and asking for recommendations. All students have been given a £1 book token to choose a book of their choice to purchase and read.

International Women’s Day
Today, Friday 7th March LABex students took part in a challenge to unlock the identity of several international women displayed around the Academy. Teachers chose an international woman of their choice, posted an image with clues on their classroom door, which the students then had to work out. Students submitted their entries into the competition to see who could claim the most correct guesses.
