Dear Leigh Academy Bexley Community
Another busy week has flown by as our students remain fully focussed on their learning. We have had several visitors come to the academy this week including Mrs Helen Esmonde, the Cluster Director of Leigh Academies Trust Board, our Chair of Governors, Mr Robert McBeth who has specific oversight of safeguarding and Mr Dan Morrison, Deputy Principal of Leigh Academy Blackheath. All our visitors have been extremely complimentary about the continued progress the academy has made and the calm and purposeful learning environment. Year 11 Parents’ Evening last night was a great success, with positive feedback from families who appreciated the support provided to our students who are just 12 weeks away from the beginning of the summer examination series.
This weeks’ news update includes feedback from Monday’s parent workshop and an insight into the life skills being taught to our students as part of the PSHE curriculum. There is also a reminder about our Key Vocabulary Guides which were launched last week.
As always, if we can support you in any way please contact us via info@labexley.org.uk, where we will make every endeavour to respond within 24 hours.
Have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr John Dixon | Principal, Leigh Academy Bexley
Parent Workshop 20th January 2025
We are pleased to report that the recent parent workshop on ‘Independent Learning and Monitoring Screen Time’ was a resounding success, with 15 families attending and actively engaging in the session. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, indicating that they found the information invaluable and relevant to supporting their children’s learning. One parent even commented that she had “attended all three workshops this academic year and look forward to the next one. They have all been extremely beneficial”. If you were not able to attend you can access the presentation below.

Looking ahead, we are excited to announce our fourth parent workshop scheduled for March 17, 2025, from 5 PM to 6 PM. This session will focus on ‘Subject Masterclass / Revision Strategies for Your Subject’ and will be led by our subject experts, Mrs. Clark-Forse, Mr. Wear, and Ms. Arthur-Amponsah. We look forward to welcoming everyone who attends!
Tutor Sessions CPR
During Monday’s tutor session, students were learning about CPR using resources from the British Heart Foundation. After answering some questions about the heart and CPR, they were able to simulate calling the emergency services and then followed instructions to practice the movements for this life saving skill.
Next week, they will be learning about using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), a portable device that can be used, with support from the emergency services, to treat a person whose heart has suddenly stopped working.

Key Vocabulary Guides (KVG)
We are excited to announce that the Key Vocabulary Guides (KVG) were launched to students during the week commencing 13th January. These guides are now available on your child’s Google Classroom for each subject. The Key Vocabulary Guides are designed to help your child build confidence in using subject-specific terminology, enhance their understanding of key concepts, and support their progress across all subjects. We encourage students to review the guides before each lesson to familiarise themselves with the terms they will be using, enabling them to engage more effectively in class discussions and activities. Parents can support their children by reviewing the guides together, discussing the meanings of the terms, and encouraging them to use these words in sentences or within the context of their learning. By actively engaging with the Key Vocabulary Guides, your child will strengthen their academic literacy and improve their overall performance.
