Jack Petchey Awards

The Jack Petchey Foundation awards are given to students based on their contributions to academy life, positive behaviour, and achievements. Students are nominated by their peers, teachers, or academy staff, and selection is usually based on their demonstration of exceptional leadership, commitment, or support to others within the academy community. The award recognises students for their efforts in areas like kindness, academic improvement, resilience, and involvement in extracurricular activities. We would like to take this opportunity to celebrate these outstanding role models: Felix (Year 7), Oluwajomiloju (Year 8), and Nevaeh (Year 9). Their exemplary qualities and positive impact on the academy community make them deserving recipients of the prestigious Jack Petchey award. Congratulations!

Parent Workshop

We are excited to invite you to our third parent workshop, which will take place on Monday, January 20th, 5pm-6pm in the Main Hall. This workshop will focus on Independent Learning at Home, covering valuable resources like Sparx Maths and Seneca, as well as strategies for effectively monitoring screen time.

Our previous two workshops on the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Read and Write were incredibly successful. Parents shared how these sessions provided them with essential insights into their child’s learning and how to support their child’s learning at home. Many found the information beneficial in helping their children develop the skills they need to thrive academically.

We believe that fostering independent learning is crucial for our students, and we are eager to share practical strategies you can implement at home. Your participation in these workshops not only strengthens our school community but also plays a vital role in your child’s educational journey.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday, January 20th! Thank you for your continued support, and let’s work together to make this workshop another success.

Warm regards,
Mrs Emirhan | Lead Practitioner English

Screen Masking adds a tint to your screen or document – there are a variety of colours and display options within Settings. This supports your child, reduces screen glare and increases focus.

Also, if your child has colour or light sensitivity it will ease eye strain. Please encourage your child in this process and try it out at home.

LAT Football Tournament Report – Year 7 & 8 Girls and Boys

This week, both the Year 7 and 8 Girls and Boys football teams had the exciting opportunity to participate in the LAT Five-A-Side Tournament, held at Goals in Dartford. The event was a fantastic showcase of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, providing valuable experiences for all students involved.

Performance Highlights

The teams performed admirably, showing remarkable skill, determination, and a strong sense of collaboration on the pitch. The Year 7 and 8 Girls team demonstrated excellent tactical awareness and played with great energy, adapting quickly to the fast-paced nature of five-a-side football. Their communication and team spirit were particularly commendable, and they showed significant improvement throughout the matches.

Similarly, the Year 7 and 8 Boys team showed great promise, with standout individual performances and cohesive teamwork. Their resilience in challenging situations and ability to stay focused under pressure were key highlights. The players displayed excellent technical skills, from precise passing to quick ball control, which earned them respect from other teams.

Although both teams faced tough competition, they demonstrated true sportsmanship and gave their best in every game. Each match was an opportunity for personal and collective growth, with players showing a strong commitment to representing the academy with pride.

Benefits of Participation

Participating in events like the LAT Five-A-Side Tournament offers students numerous benefits. Not only do these events provide a platform for students to apply their skills in a competitive setting, but they also promote teamwork, communication, and leadership qualities. These experiences help build confidence, encourage personal growth, and enhance the social aspect of sport, as students from different schools and backgrounds come together.

For many students, this tournament was an opportunity to push themselves physically and mentally, gaining a sense of achievement through both wins and losses. The competitive environment fosters resilience, while the camaraderie built among teammates strengthens their sense of belonging within the academy.

Credit to the Academy

The performance of our Year 7 and 8 teams reflects the strong footballing culture at Leigh Academy, Bexley. The students’ commitment, discipline, and sportsmanship are a testament to the values we strive to instill in all our students. Their conduct on and off the pitch also highlights the positive ethos of our academy, with students representing Leigh Academy Bexley with pride and respect.

We are incredibly proud of all the participants, and the experience gained will undoubtedly contribute to their development, both as athletes and individuals. We look forward to further opportunities for our teams to showcase their talent and continue to grow in the world of competitive sport.
