Dear Leigh Academy Bexley Community
It has been business as usual this week at Leigh Academy Bexley. Despite the cold weather and a few days of morning frost the students have continued to maintain our high standards and expectations across the Academy whilst the Estates Team proactively keeps the site safe for us all. Thank you to everyone.
This weeks’ news includes our very successful Parent Workshop on Monday evening, Year 10 BTEC Performing Arts trip to A Christmas Carol at The Old Vic and an update on the progress of the mock examinations.
As always, if we can support you in any way please contact us via info@labexley.org.uk, where we will make every endeavour to respond within 24 hours.
Have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr John Dixon | Principal, Leigh Academy Bexley
Parent Workshop
We are pleased to share a summary of our recent parent workshop held on Monday, November 25th – Read and Write with a Literacy focus. We had a fantastic turnout, with 13 families joining us, resulting in a total of 17 attendees.
The feedback from the session was overwhelmingly positive. Out of the 13 parents who participated, 11 rated the workshop a perfect 5 out of 5 across all 10 questions, which included inquiries about their overall satisfaction, the relevance of the content, the clarity of the information presented, and the engagement level of the session. Only 2 parents gave a score of 4 out of 5 for two specific questions, while still providing a 5 out of 5 for the remaining eight. This strong feedback indicates that we are effectively meeting the needs and expectations of our families.
When asked for suggestions on how we could improve future workshops, the responses were encouraging, with all parents expressing satisfaction. One parent noted, “None – format very good and efficient,” while another shared, “I am extremely happy with the presentation and the workshop. Very relevant and informative.” Such comments reinforce the value of our efforts to create a meaningful and engaging environment for our families.
Looking ahead, many parents expressed interest in topics related to home learning and how they can better support their children at home. This aligns perfectly with our next session, which will focus on these very subjects, ensuring that we continue to address the needs of our parents.
Additionally, we effectively addressed questions regarding the classroom practices that complement our use of Read and Write. It’s vital that parents feel informed about the strategies we implement to support their children’s learning.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff who led the session – a huge thank you to Miss K Scott and Mrs S Wilson. Additionally, a big thank you to the staff who assisted in contacting parents to promote the event, as well as to those who helped set up the workshop. Your support has been invaluable in making this event a success. Finally, we would like to send our appreciation to all who attended and contributed to the positive atmosphere of the session.
Thank you once again for your continued partnership in supporting our students’ education. We look forward to seeing you at our next workshop in January!
Warm regards,
Mrs G Emirhan | Lead Practitioner – English
Year 7 Parents/Carers’ evening
This week, Leigh Academy Bexley proudly hosted its first Year 7 parental event of the year, Meet the Tutor Evening. We were delighted to welcome our Year 7 families, providing an excellent opportunity to discuss how students have settled in since they transitioned from primary school to secondary education.
The evening was designed to further strengthen the positive relationships between the academy and families. It also offered a chance to review students’ commitment to learning and current progress. The high level of engagement was evident, with an outstanding 89% of families signing up to attend the event.
The evening was a fantastic success, showcasing the shared dedication of parents/carers, students, and staff. We look forward to continuing to work closely with our families to ensure our Year 7 students thrive at Leigh Academy Bexley.

Year 10 – A Christmas Carol Trip
On Tuesday 26th November our 28 Year 10 BTEC Performing Arts students were invited to watch ‘A Christmas Carol’ with the infamous John Simm at The Old Vic. This is the second of four performances with The Old Vic School’s Club which we have been fortunate to gain access to this academic year.
The show was a mixture of bell playing, singing and dancing. The whole auditorium was, at one point, snowing and with the amazing lighting all on a stage that was in the shape of a cross saw, the audience immersed in the performance.
As part of this project, students also meet with actors from the show who visit the Academy to deliver a workshop. This is happening next Monday 2nd December in our Drama Studio which will give our students further insight into the different styles of acting and different approaches to the use of a script.
A thoroughly enjoyable time was had by all, staff and students. We look forward to taking our young people to the next show in the new year.

Year 11 and Year 13 Mock Examinations
Year 11 and 13 students have successfully completed the first week of their mock examinations and continue to show academic resilience during the process.
Students are to continue to:
- Ensure they bring all their exam equipment including a calculator in a transparent pencil case
- Ensure they manage their water intake and toilet breaks outside of exams.
We wish them all the best of luck for the rest of the mock examinations.
