Dear Leigh Academy Bexley Community
This week at Leigh Academy Bexley our focus has been on learning outside the classroom.
Our Year 7 students have engaged well with the SPARX Year 7 Independent Learning Club and the After School Maths Club. More information about the Academy’s current extra-curricular offer can be found here.
We are also looking forward to the delivery of the new books chosen by the students that visited Moon Lane Books yesterday. The Academy Library is at the heart of the academy and is central to our literacy strategy.
We wish our Year 11 and 13 students the best of luck for their mock examinations that begin on Monday for a duration of three weeks.
As always, if we can support you in any way please contact us via info@labexley.org.uk, where we will make every endeavour to respond within 24 hours. Please note, when emailing to request a gate pass, please email with as much notice as possible to enable the College teams to review and respond.
Have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr John Dixon | Principal, Leigh Academy Bexley
SPARX Year 7 Independent Learning Club Launch
This week, the school launched the SPARX Year 7 Independent Learning Club, designed to support and engage students in their independent studies. Here’s a snapshot of what’s been happening in the sessions so far:
- How the sessions are running: The club sessions have been running smoothly, with structured, hands-on activities planned in advance.
- Content covered: This week’s focus in science has been an investigation based on the KS3 curriculum, specifically exploring atoms, elements, and compounds.
We look forward to welcoming more students and continuing with engaging activities in the weeks to come!
Exciting Start to Our After-School Maths Club!
On Tuesday, 12th November 2024, we held our first after-school Maths Club session from 3:15 PM to 4:00 PM, and it proved to be both engaging and productive. Students participated in a mix of independent and collaborative activities, tackling problem-solving challenges and enhancing their understanding of key concepts such as numbers, the order of operations, and indices.
A highlight of the session was Avneet K. from Year 7, who was thrilled to discover why any number raised to the power of zero equals 1. The session concluded on a positive note, with students leaving equipped with improved mathematical skills and a deeper appreciation for the subject.
It’s a fantastic start, and we look forward to seeing even more students at our upcoming sessions!
Year 8 Visit to Moon Lane Books
On Thursday 21st November a group of students from Year 8 visited Moon Lane Books in London to choose books for the school library using a grant that we had been given from the Siobhan Dowd Trust. The students spent time at Moon Lane carefully choosing books that they wanted to read as well as books that they thought that their fellow students would enjoy reading. The students have made some brilliant choices covering a range of genres and topics, everything from the latest thriller novel by Karen McManus to newly published graphic novels, and old favourites like Tom Gates. We’re looking forward to getting the books on the library shelves for everyone else to see and read.
