Dear Parents and Carers,
Year 11 – Module 5
As we approach the final few weeks before the summer GCSE series begins on Monday 4th May 2026, we wanted to reach out and share the extensive support package we have in place at school.
This is undoubtedly a high-pressure time for our Year 11s. As a leadership team, our goal is to ensure that every student feels “exam-ready” – not just academically, but mentally and emotionally as well.
Controlled Assessment Completion
Before the written exams begin, it is vital that all Controlled Assessments (NEA/Coursework) are completed to the highest possible standard. For many subjects, these marks are already “in the bank” and can significantly buffer a student’s final grade.
We are currently in the final window for these submissions. Please encourage your child to engage with every piece of feedback from their teachers to ensure they are not leaving any marks on the table.
Mandatory Revision and Catch-up Sessions
To ensure no student is left behind, we have scheduled a series of high-impact revision sessions. Attendance at these sessions is compulsory, as they are designed to cover critical content that will appear on the papers.
These sessions will take place on Saturdays and over the May Half-Term (25th – 29th May). A bespoke timetable for your child will be sent home by Friday 24th April.
Independent Revision Spaces
The academy will be open every Saturday from 9:30 am – 1:30 pm for students who would like the opportunity to work at school. There will be the opportunity for independent study, as well as small group study.
In addition, the academy library will remain open until 5:00 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday for independent study.
Exam Ready sessions
Once the exam season has started, students will have access to the Main Hall from 7.30am daily to support exam preparation. It is essential that students arrive for their examinations early and have done some retrieval practice before they enter the examination room. These sessions will be supported by their subject teachers. Breakfast will be provided daily for these sessions.
The “Drop-Down” Exam Timetable
Once the formal exam season starts, we will move to a bespoke Drop-Down Timetable. Students will follow a tailored schedule ensuring they are with subject specialist teachers for the lessons immediately preceding each examination. This allows for last-minute “walking-talking” mocks and targeted coaching.
In addition, once students have finished their final examination for their subject, the lessons for these subjects will be taught by a subject specialist for a course they have not yet finished. It is essential that we are maximising the time your child spends with their teachers during this period.
General Advice:
- Daily revision checks: ask your child to show you what subject they are revising each evening and what specific topic or exam question they are focusing on.
- Equipment ready the night before.
- Strong morning routine: ensure they arrive at school in good time for all exam-ready sessions, which begin from 7:30am.
- Sleep and screen time: help them maintain a consistent bedtime and reduce mobile phone use in the hour before sleep to support memory retention and focus.
- Quiet revision space: where possible, provide a calm space at home for revision.
- Timetable visibility: encourage your child to keep their exam timetable visible at home so they are clear on upcoming exams and can plan their revision accordingly.
- Positive reassurance: regular encouragement and calm reassurance from home can make a significant difference in helping students manage pressure and perform at their best.
Wellbeing and Support
While the expectations are high, we are here to support every child. A tired brain cannot retain information effectively. We ask for your support in ensuring they maintain a consistent sleep routine and have a quiet space to work away from their mobile phones.
We are incredibly proud of the resilience this year group has shown. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s progress or wellbeing, please do not hesitate to contact their Head of College.
If you have any questions please contact us via the info@bexley.latrust.org.uk email address.
Yours sincerely,
Mr C Dillon
Deputy Principal
