Dear Parent/Carer,
Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
We are delighted to announce that recruitment is now open for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) for our Year 9 students.
Why DofE?
Duke of Edinburgh is a brilliant way for your child to discover their potential. It gives young people the chance to make new friends, follow their passions, learn new skills, and make a difference in our community. Gaining a DofE Award is a good way to strengthen your application to potential employers, too. The activities are non-competitive and a powerful way for every young person to build self-belief. Please have a look at this short film to get an idea of the benefits.
How do the awards work?
There are three levels of DofE Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
To achieve a Bronze Award, students must complete four distinct sections:
- Volunteering: Giving back to the community.
- Physical: Improving fitness and wellbeing.
- Skills: Developing a new or existing talent.
- Expedition: A team-based outdoor challenge.
Students have the freedom to choose their own activities for the first three sections, with full guidance and support provided by the school. The Expedition involves two days and one night in the countryside; we ensure all participants are thoroughly trained and prepared for this adventure.
Enrolment Details: The cost of registration is £30.50 per student. Please note that we have 30 spaces available for this year’s cohort.
Next steps
We will be holding an information evening for interested students and their families on Thursday 26th February from 5pm-6pm. If you would like to attend this event, please complete this form.
If you have any questions, please do get in touch with our D of E Coordinator, Mrs Sarah Wilson, by email at sarah.wilson@bexley.latrustorg.uk. The DofE website – www.dofe.org also has a lot of useful information.
We hope you’ll agree that the DofE is a fantastic opportunity for your child to have new experiences, learn and develop new skills, and build their confidence and peer relationships. Thank you for your support.
Yours faithfully
Sarah Wilson
