End of Module Letter

Two female students are pictured conversing with one another with smiles on their faces outdoors.

Dear Parents/Carers,

It was a pleasure to welcome many parents to the Parents’ Information Event on 4th July. As promised you can access the slides from the evening here. The answers to the majority of questions raised at the meeting can be found in this letter.

As the academic year 2022/2023 draws to a successful close, we wanted to confirm the arrangements for the end of the module on Tuesday 18th July.

Students must attend in full school uniform and will follow their normal timetable until 12.15pm, when they will be dismissed by the Leadership Team. Students who are entitled to a free school meal will be able to purchase food at break time.

Please note that Leigh Academy Bexley re-opens in September for students at the normal time, as follows:

Year 7 and 12 only return Friday 1st September 2023
All students return Monday 4th September 2023

Students must be in the academy no later than 8.26am ready for tutor time at 8.30am. Further information regarding the start of Module 1 2023/2024 will be sent before the end of August.

Term Dates for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 academic years can be found on our website here.

We are very much looking forward to seeing students in their smart new uniform; a reminder that college ties will be given to students during an assembly on their first day in the academy. The uniform requirements can be found on our website here. Please check carefully and do not hesitate to contact us using the info@labexley.org.uk email address if you require any support with uniform vouchers or have any questions regarding uniform.

There are a large amount of improvement and investment works planned to start during the summer break. Full details can be found in the slides linked above in the first paragraph. Students can expect redecorated corridors, classrooms and science labs along with an improved and enhanced restaurant provided by Cucina. Further information about the catering provision can be found here. Toilets are also being upgraded and drinking water points provided for students to refill their bottles. We are excited that the new library will be operational at the start of Module 1.

The academy has now migrated its management information system from Arbor to Bromcom. This means that we will launch the MyChildAtSchool App ready for 1st September. Further information including login details will be sent to parents separately. In addition, we are now fully integrated with our Google platform and will also launch Google Guardian from 1st September. This function, which is part of the Google Classroom facility, allows parents/carers to receive daily or weekly updates on assignments set and the progress of their child in submitting work, including homework.

We are pleased to inform you that our Sparx launch was a resounding success, with enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from both students and teachers alike. Sparx’s friendly display, high quality information, and personalised learning features have proven to be just what our students needed to improve their performance and deepen their understanding of mathematics.

We understand that some of our students are struggling to login to Sparx Maths since the change to Leigh Academy Bexley. Since your child has received a new email ID, could you please ask your child to use the new email ID as a username and send the password reset request. If you have any questions or require support with Sparx or home learning please contact us on the info@labexley.org.uk email address.

We hope you all have an enjoyable summer break with your families. If you need any support please contact us using the info@labexley.org.uk email address.

Yours faithfully,

John Dixon
Principal
